The Collect
Second Sunday of Easter
Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery hast established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ's Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
Preface of Easter
Old Testament Reading
Acts 3:12-15,17-26
12So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?
13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go.
14But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
15and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.
17"Yet now, brethren, I know that you did it in ignorance, as did also your rulers.
18But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled.
19Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
20and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before,
21whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.
22For Moses truly said to the fathers, 'The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you.
23And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.'
24Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days.
25You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'
26To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities."

Isaiah 26:2-9,19
2Open the gates,
That the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in.
3You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.
4Trust in the LORD forever,
For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.
5For He brings down those who dwell on high,
The lofty city;
He lays it low,
He lays it low to the ground,
He brings it down to the dust.
6The foot shall tread it down-
The feet of the poor
And the steps of the needy."
7The way of the just is uprightness;
O Most Upright,
You weigh the path of the just.
8Yes, in the way of Your judgments,
O LORD, we have waited for You;
The desire of our soul is for Your name
And for the remembrance of You.
9With my soul I have desired You in the night,
Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early;
For when Your judgments are in the earth,
The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
19Your dead shall live;
Together with my dead body they shall arise.
Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust;
For your dew is like the dew of herbs,
And the earth shall cast out the dead.

Psalm
Psalm 111
Confitebor tibi
1Hallelujah! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, * in the assembly of the upright, in the congregation.
2Great are the deeds of the LORD! * they are studied by all who delight in them.
3His work is full of majesty and splendor, * and his righteousness endures for ever.
4He makes his marvelous works to be remembered; * the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.
5He gives food to those who fear him; * he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6He has shown his people the power of his works * in giving them the lands of the nations.
7The works of his hands are faithfulness and justice; * all his commandments are sure.
8They stand fast for ever and ever, * because they are done in truth and equity.
9He sent redemption to his people; he commanded his covenant for ever; * holy and awesome is his Name.
10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; * those who act accordingly have a good understanding; his praise endures for ever.

Psalm 118:19-24
19Open for me the gates of righteousness; *
I will enter them;
I will offer thanks to the LORD.
20"This is the gate of the LORD; *
he who is righteous may enter."
21I will give thanks to you, for you answered me *
and have become my salvation.
22The same stone which the builders rejected *
has become the chief cornerstone.
23This is the LORD'S doing, *
and it is marvelous in our eyes.
24On this day the LORD has acted; *
we will rejoice and be glad in it.
New Testament Reading
1 John 5:1-6
1Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.
2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.
3For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith.
5Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6This is He who came by water and blood-Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.

Gospel Reading
John 20:19-31
19Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you."
20When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
21So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."
22And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
23If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."
24Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
25The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."
26And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!"
27Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing."
28And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"
29Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
30And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;
31but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
-- NKJV

The Preface
Preface of Easter
But chiefly are we bound to praise thee for the glorious resurrection of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the very Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us, and hath taken away the sin of the world; who by his death hath destroyed death, and by his rising to life again hath won for us everlasting life.
